After several years focused on facilitating and creating public art and installation works in Cleveland, local artist Kate Sopko has recently returned to collage work. Pulling from a library of images she compiled over decades from textbooks, magazines and other mass-produced media, this body of work pulls together pieces she's created since 2009.
Concentrating on composition, balance and color, collage work has always been a chance for Kate to work intuitively, pulling together unexpected visual relationships between disparate slices of history. Shown below, her piece "Here, Asleep" received Honorable Mention at the 2019 Cleveland Print Room Peer Show.
"Toast is one of my favorite go to spots. Great food, wine and cocktails and always such a fun time! Perfect vibe for the Detroit Shoreway arts scene with plenty of work by local artists."
